Blooper Hooper Costs Leeds

Leeds United
1 - 2
Derby County

Elland Road

31/10/17 7.45pm

Attendance: 28,565

Referee:

Leeds United conceded twice in the final quarter of the game to go down to a third straight home defeat.

Leeds looked well set to end their poor run as they led through an early Pierre-Michel Lasogga goal but two goals from Derby striker Sam Winnall won the game for the visitors.

Lasogga fired Leeds ahead after just seven minutes when he beat Scott Carson with a low shot from the edge of the area.

Leeds were then denied what looked a stonewall penalty when referee waved away home appeals after Ezgjan Alioski looked to be hauled over by Andre Wisdom.

Lasogga had a great chance to double the lead just before the hour but he could only fire wide of the target from close range.

His miss proved pivotal as Derby grew into the game and they levelled with 18 minutes remaining when Winnall found space in the area to sweep home a Craig Forsyth cross.

Derby then won the game in controversial circumstances with referee Simon Hooper making his second penalty blunder decision of the evening.

Hooper pointed to the spot after Hadi Sacko had fouled Tom Lawrence, with the incident taking place outside of the area.

Winnall stepped up to fire home his second goal of the evening.

Lasogga had a late chance to earn Leeds a point but he blazed over the bar from the edge of the area.
