Leeds United moved to the top of the Championship table with a 2-0 home win against Birmingham City.

Goals from Samu Saiz and Stuart Dallas ensured Leeds climbed above Cardiff City in the table after they lost 3-0 at Preston North End.

Leeds started brightly and they went ahead on 17 minutes.

Saiz scored from close range when he followed into the area after Michel-Pierre Lasogga had stung the palms of Birmingham goalkeeper David Stockdale from a tight angle.

The goal lifted Birmingham who looked a threat most of the evening with Jota the main threat for the visitors.

Birmingham almost levelled on the stroke of half time when Maxime Colin headed past Felix Wiedwald but Luke Ayling somehow got back to scoop the ball off the line.

In a tight second half with few clear-cut chances, Leeds clinched the game in injury time when Stuart Dallas cut in from the right before wrong footing Stockdale in the Birmingham goal.

The clean sheet is a sixth in a row for Leeds in the league, the first time they have achieved the feat since 1981.
