Brewers Gone For A Burton As Leeds Leave Them Punch-Drunk

Leeds United produced a stunning performance against Burton Albion to continue their excellent start to the season.

Leeds returned from the international break to leave the Brewers punch-drunk as they smashed five past the visitors to Elland Road.

Pierre Michel-Lasogga enjoyed a memorable debut with two-goals and Kalvin Phillips, Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe also got on the scoresheet as Leeds produced a five-star performance.

Having failed to score in their previous two home games this season, Leeds flew out of the blocks. Roofe had an early effort cleared off the line, Samu Saiz had a shot saved and Lasogga had a shot blocked. The early pressure paid off on 20 minutes when a sublime through ball from Eunan O`Kane found Lasogga and he slid home his first goal for the club since joining from Bundesliga side SV Hamburg on transfer deadline day.

Phillips doubled the lead just past the half hour when he swept home a low foot shot from the edge of the area and the game was all over as a contest just before the break when Hernandez fired home from the penalty spot after Lasogga had been pulled back in the penalty area.

Leeds continued to press early in the second half and Stuart Dallas and Lasogga came close to adding to the scoreline in the opening exchanges of the second half.

Roofe netted his fifth goal in three games nine minutes into the second half when he created himself some space 20-yards out before firing past Stephen Bywater in the Burton goal.

The former Oxford forward then became the provider with a lovely chip for Lasogga to run onto and head home.

With another game on Tuesday, Thomas Christiansen took the opportunity to make three changes in the second half and one of them, Jay-Roy Grot came closest to adding a sixth on his home debut but his effort was deflected wide.

It was a totally dominant performance from Leeds who look terrifying in attack and solid in defence and it is now 473 minutes since they last conceded in the league.
