Kemar Raises The Roof To Send Leeds Through

Leeds United
5 - 1
Newport County

Elland Road

22/08/17 7.45pm

Attendance: 17,098

Referee:

Leeds United forward Kemar Roofe scored his first hat-trick for the club as they booked their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup with a 5-1 win against Newport County.

Roofe led Leeds revival with goals either side of half time after they had fallen behind against their League Two opponents.

Newport went ahead just past the half hour when a long-range shot from Josh Labadie somehow beat Leeds keeper Rob Green.

Roofe drew Leeds level just before the break when he fired home from close range after Newport failed to clear the danger from a Leeds corner.

Roofe scored his second of the game early in the second half with an instinctive finish and he completed his hat-trick in spectacular finish just past the hour when he scored with a bicycle kick.

Leeds introduced Samu Saiz from the bench and the hat-trick hero from the last round quickly got in on the act when he fired home a fourth for Leeds.

Ronaldo Vieira scored a fifth in the final minute to round of the win for Leeds against a plucky Newport side who deserved better than a 5-1 defeat.
