Wood Double Secures Crucial Three Points

Leeds United continued their push for promotion with a 2-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Chris Wood was once again the Leeds hero. The striker netted twice in the second half to take his tally to 27 for the season as Leeds moved a step closer to securing the minimum of a play-off place.

A cagey first half saw few chances for either side. Kyle Bartley headed wide for Leeds and Wood then failed to make a good contact with the goal at his mercy.

Brighton had the best chance of the first half when Leeds defender Liam Cooper almost turned the ball into his own goal but Rob Green saved his blushes with a quick reaction save.

It looked like being one of those games for Wood when he saw his shot saved by David Stockdale. A mistake in the Brighton defence saw the ball drop to Wood but his tame shot was easy for the Leeds supporting Brighton keeper.

Three minutes later, Wood made no mistake when he headed home a Charlie Taylor cross.

The goal spurred Brighton into life and Glenn Murray two good chances to draw the visitors level. He fired wide with his first effort after getting in behind the Leeds defence and Green then made another great reaction save to keep out a fierce shot.

Leeds made the game safe with five minutes remaining when Wood scored from the penalty spot after substitute Souleymane Doukara was fouled in the penalty area.
