Leeds United 1 - Bristol City 0

Elland Road

19/01/13 3pm

Attendance: 18,156

McCormack the Leeds hero

Leeds United made it six league wins in a row at Elland Road but they were made to struggle by bottom of the table Bristol City.

Ross McCormack scored the only goal of the game halfway through the second half when he rose at the far post to head past Tom Heaton.

Bristol City carved out the best chance of a dull first half, Paddy Kenny keeping out a Richard Foster effort, which was fortunately for Leeds, straight at him.

Leeds failed to trouble Heaton in the Bristol goal in the first half, as the closest they came was when he fumbled a cross from Ross Barkley with McCormack ready to pounce.

Kenny had to be agile at the start of the second half when defender Tom Lees almost diverted an attempted clearance straight into his own goal.

Leeds were beginning to enjoy more success down the right with Sam Byram and Barkley linking up well and the duo both had efforts on goal as Leeds started to take control of the game.

It was a cross from the right by Barkley that eventually broke the deadlock. His deep cross was met by the head of McCormack who made it two goals in two games for the first time in almost twelve months.

Rodolph Austin then had an effort go across the goal and wide as Leeds looked for a second.

Lees also had a header go straight into the arms of Heaton but that was as good as it got.

An important three points for Leeds, who remain in eleventh place after the weekend`s results, still five points outside the play-off places.
