Leeds beaten by second half Chelsea blitz

Leeds United bowed out of the Capital One League Cup after a spirited display against Chelsea.

A cup upset looked on the cards when Leeds went in at half time in the lead thanks to a Luciano Becchio goal.

The game changed in the favour of Chelsea in the first minute of the second half when Juan Mata equalised.

Two goals just past the hour by Branislav Ivanovic and Victor Moses gave Chelsea some breathing space and late goals from Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres flattered Chelsea.

Jamie Ashdown came into the Leeds side in goal in place of regular number one Paddy Kenny and he did well to block Victor Moses shot early in the game.

Jason Pearce had Leeds first site of goal but he headed wide from an Diouf free-kick.

Ashdown again thwarted Moses with another good save down to his left.

Leeds took the lead with a swift counter attack when Michael Tonge fed Jerome Thomas and his ball into the middle set up Becchio who made no mistake.

Chelsea came straight back and Ashdown was again at full stretch to deny Frank Lampard.

Tom Lees had a chance to double Leeds lead close to half time but his header cleared the bar.

There was still time for Ashdown to produce another great save, keeping out a long-range free kick from Lampard.

Chelsea were back on level terms within a minute of the restart when Mata saw his shot from the edge of the area creep under Ashdown.

Ashdown was again called upon to make a reaction save to keep out a Fernando Torres header.

The Leeds keeper remained busy and he once again thwarted a long-range effort from Lampard.

Chelsea went ahead just past the hour when Ivanovic got ahead of Jason Pearce to head home.

The lead was extended within minutes when Moses finally beat Ashdown in the Leeds goal with a long-range effort.

Substitute Hazard made it four when Chelsea broke from a Leeds corner. David Luiz played in Hazard who beat Ashdown from the edge of the area.

Torres made it five a few minutes later when he tapped in from close range.
