Kenny denies Brighton

Paddy Kenny was the Leeds hero as he denied Brighton twice in the last fifteen minutes to earn Leeds a point at the Amex Stadium.

Kenny denied Craig Mackail-Smith his hat trick when he saved his penalty with fifteen minutes remaining and deep into stoppage time he pulled off a reflex save to deny Andrew Crofts.

Leeds looked a shadow of the side that had dumped Southampton out of the League Cup in midweek with the home side dominating the first half hour.

Brighton went ahead after 16 minutes when Mackail-Smith scored from the penalty spot after Lee Peltier had given away a needless foul in the area.

Leeds were handed a lifeline on 37 minutes when Luke Varney was adjudged to have been fouled in the area and El Hadji Diouf beat Tomasz Kuszczak in the Brighton goal from the spot.

Brighton went ahead early in the second half when Will Buckley was allowed to reach the dead ball line far too easily and his cut back was swept in by Mackail-Smith for his second of the evening.

Leeds earned a point halfway through the second half when Michael Brown saw his shot from the edge of the area deflected in by Leeds substitute Luciano Becchio.

Kenny`s late heroics ensured that Leeds returned north with a point.
