Becchio double as Leeds bounce back

Leeds United returned to winning ways with a battling 2-1 win at Peterborough United.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock made two changes from the side that lost to Blackpool in midweek. Adam Drury and El Hadji Diouf came into the side with Aidy White and Sam Byram dropping to the bench.

It was Leeds who started the brighter, Ross McCormack testing Bobby Olenjnik in the Peterborough goal with a fierce free kick.

Leeds went ahead after seven minutes when McCormack played in Luke Varney who pulled the ball back for Luciano Becchio who managed to beat the despairing attempts of Olejnik.

In an half of few chances, Paddy Kenny was forced into one fine save in the Leeds goal to deny Shaun Brisley.

Leeds started the second half in similar fashion to the first, putting Peterborough on the back foot.

It wasn`t long before Leeds had doubled their lead and it was Becchio again. McCormack found the Argentinian striker in space in the area and his header gave Olejnik no chance.

Becchio`s second of the game made it four goals in four games so far this season.

Leeds looked to be cruising to victory until a hashed clearance by David Norris eventually fell to Michael Bostwick who fired home from the edge of the area.

Warnock freshened the side up, bringing on youngsters Byram and Dominic Poleon and it was Byram, who twice came close to adding to the score for Leeds.

Despite four minutes of added time, Leeds saw out the game to claim their second win in three games and move into sixth place in the championship at this early stage in the season.
