Leeds go down to late goal

Leeds went down to a late goal at Blackpool as they once again finished a game with ten men after Darren O`Dea was shown a red card for two bookings.

Blackpool won the game with just eleven minutes remaining thanks to a Martinez Angel goal.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock made two changes from the side that beat Peterborough at the weekend. Danny Webber replaced the injured Robbie Rogers and Paul Robinson was back in the starting line up in place of Charlie Taylor.

O`Dea had the first chance of the evening for Leeds when he headed over following a good cross from Robert Snodgrass.

Lua Lua had the first opening of the evening for Blackpool but he fired over.

Matt Phillips then fired into the side netting has he easily beat Tom Lees on the Leeds right.

Tom Ince then fired over for Blackpool with the pace of the Blackpool attackers causing problems for the Leeds defence.

Ince then made another opening but his shot was well saved by Andy Lonergan in the Leeds goal.

Lua Lua then had another chance for Blackpool but Lonergan easily saved his effort.

The home side had enjoyed the best of the chances in the first half and Phillips headed over as the game neared the interval.

Leeds then had strong claims for a penalty turned down when McCormack looked to be brought down by former Leeds defender Stephen Crainey but referee Tony Bates waved away the appeals.

Moments later McCormack fired wide as Leeds finished the half well.

Lonergan made a good save on the stroke of half time to tip away a fierce free kick from Lua Lua.

At the other end, Danny Webber forced Matt Gilks into a good save as the game opened up.

The half time whistle followed soon afterwards with the sides going in level at half time.

The second half took time to get going. Leeds were enjoying more possession in the Blackpool half but were failing to create any clear cut chances.

Lua Lua had the first effort on target in the second half, Lonergan putting the ball behind for a corner.

McCormack had Leeds first effort on target of the second half. Gilks pushing his free kick around the post for a corner.

Leeds were enjoying a sustained period of pressure on the Blackpool goal and substitute Luciano Becchio headed over following a ball in from Adam Clayton.

Lonergan made another great save to deny Blackpool substitute Nouha Dicko.

Blackpool took the lead with just eleven minutes remaining when Martinez Angel scored from close range.

Leeds missed a great chance to equalise soon afterwards when Webber headed over after a pin point cross from Snodgrass

O`Dea was sent off for Leeds soon afterwards when he was showed his second yellow card of the evening after pulling down Tom Ince, Leeds ninth sending off this season.

It was to prove the final nail in Leeds coffin as Blackpool held on to increase their play-off hopes.
