4 - 1
Peterborough United

Elland Road

14/04/12 3pm

Attendance:

Referee:

Billy Paynter marked a rare start for Leeds by scoring twice and earning boss Neil Warnock his first home win in charge of Leeds.

Leeds started well but fell behind to a Joe Newell strike.

Paynter equalised with almost the last kick of the first half and Ross McCormack scored twice in the opening minutes of the second half for Leeds.

Paynter scored his second of the afternoon with seventeen minutes remaining to end a run of three straight defeats for Leeds.

Warnock made five changes to the side that were beaten at home by Derby County on Easter Monday.

Youngster Charlie Taylor made his first start since September, Billy Paynter and Robbie Rogers made their first starts of the season and there was returns for Leigh Bromby and Adam Clayton.

Billy Paynter was quickly in the thick of the action. He had a shot deflected wide in the first minute and a minute later, he forced Paul Jones into a save in the Peterborough goal.

Leeds had started strongly and Robert Snodgrass was denied twice in the opening five minutes.

Robbie Rogers afternoon was cut short after a bright start when he went off injured inside fifteen minutes.

Peterborough had their first real attack after fifteen minutes when Andy Lonergan saved a Paul Taylor header.

George Boyd then fired wide as the visitors came back into the game.

Leeds went close when a Peterborough defender headed against his own bar following a Snodgrass free kick.

Darren O`Dea then headed over for Leeds in an open first quarter of the game.

Peterborough took the lead when Joe Newell beat Lonergan with a low shot.

Snodgrass then fired a free kick over the bar for Leeds as the home side tried to find a way back into the game before half time.

Adam Clayton had a chance for Leeds but his effort was easy for Jones in the Peterborough goal.

Lonergan kept Leeds in the game just before half time when he made a good save to deny Paul Taylor.

Billy Paynter equalised for Leeds in stoppage time at the end of the first half when he tapped in from close range after a mistake in the Peterborough defence.

It was Paynter`s first competitive goal at Elland Road and only his second for the club since signing in the summer of 2010.

The half time whistle went soon afterwards with Leeds back on level terms.

Warnock made a half time substitution with Paul Robinson replacing Charlie Taylor at left back.

Leeds took the lead in the opening moments of the second half when Ross McCormack scored following a long throw in from Bromby.

It was quickly three when McCormack scored his second in two minutes when he side footed home from a Clayton cross.

Paynter scored his second of the afternoon and Leeds fourth to secure the points for the home side with just over fifteen minutes remaining.

McCormack came close to getting his hat trick when he forced a good save out of Jones.

Webber should have scored a fifth for Leeds when he fired wide in stoppage time.
