Zigic downs Leeds

Leeds were made to pay for some missed early chances as Birmingham striker Nikola Zigic scored four times for the visitors.

The game had started well for Leeds with Ross McCormack firing Leeds ahead but then Zigic took over. He equalised in the first half and score three times in seven second half minutes as Birmingham cruised to victory in the end.

Leeds started well and Becchio had two early chances, with the striker hitting one effort straight at Birmingham keeper Boaz Myhill.

He had an even better chance minutes later when he failed to hit the target when one on one with Myhill.

Robert Snodgrass was next to have a chance after a great cross-field pass from Fabian Delph but his shot was straight at Myhill.

Andy Lonergan was called into action for the first time on fifteen minutes when Chris Burke got in behind Zac Thompson but Lonergan saved the effort from Burke.

Ross McCormack took the lead soon afterwards when he beat Curtis Davies and fired past Myhill.

Birmingham levelled just past the half hour when Nikola Zigic headed in following a cross from Wade Elliott.

Leeds went straight back on the attack and Delph fired wide following a Leeds corner.

Tom Lees then headed wide following a Snodgrass free kick with Leeds not letting the disappointment of the equaliser get to them.

It was to prove the last chance of the first half and Leeds will have been happy with their first half performance despite conceding an equaliser.

Birmingham had the first chance of the second half when Lonergan comfortably saved a Zigic header.

Becchio had Leeds first chance of the second half but his header was knocked out for a corner.

Becchio went close again soon after when Myhill turned his shot over for a corner.

Zigic scored his second of the evening when he fired past Lonergan following good work by Chris Burke to put Birmingham ahead.

Zigic completed his hat trick minutes later when he headed home following a cross from Gomis.

It was almost four when Elliott saw his effort deflected wide for a corner.

From the following corner, Zigic scored his fourth of the evening when he beat Lonergan with another header, his third goal in seven minutes.

The goal finished the game as a contest as Leeds have to return to the drawing board ahead of the game at Bristol City on Saturday.
