Three goals in the final quarter of the game clinched an important three points for Leeds.
Goals from Robert Snodgrass, Ross McCormack and Luciano Becchio clinched the points after Ipswich had looked well in control of the game and led through a Adam Drury goal in the first half.
A lacklustre Leeds performance was turned on its head with just twenty minutes remaining when former loan goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was sent off for handling outside the area.
Within minutes, Snodgrass equalised following comical defending. Inside the final ten minutes and McCormack took advantage of more poor defending by Ipswich with substitute goalkeeper Lee-Barrett`s indecision costing him as McCormack got to the ball ahead of him to score.
Becchio wrapped the points up for Leeds in injury time when he scored following a long clearance by Andy Lonergan.
Fabian Delph, Mikael Forssell and Robert Snodgrass started for Leeds with Luciano Becchio, Aidan White and Michael Brown dropping to the bench.
In a very quiet opening to the game, the first real chance fell to Ipswich on the half hour. Lee Martin got in behind the Leeds defence but goalkeeper Andy Lonergan was quickly off his line to deny Martin.
Ipswich took the lead soon afterwards when Adam Drury fired under Lonergan from the edge of the area.
The visitors had been much the better side in the first half and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas almost doubled the lead on the stroke of half time when he hit the woodwork.
The second half started much the same and Simon Grayson made two changes close to the hour. Becchio and White replacing Townsend and Forssell.
Robert Snodgrass had only Leeds second effort of the game just past the hour when he headed wide.
Ipswich were reduced to ten men when Alex McCarthy handled the ball outside the area.
The visitors quickly brought on substitute goalkeeper Lee-Barrett, sacrificing Jason Scotland.
From the resulting free kick, Snodgrass fired over the bar.
Leeds were level moments later when Snodgrass made no mistake following a shocking clearance from Ipswich defender Sonko.
Darren O`Dea had Leeds next effort from a corner but his header was straight at Lee-Barrett.
Leeds went into the lead when Ross McCormack had the easiest of tasks to finish when he got to the ball ahead of the hesitant Lee-Barrett in the Ipswich goal.
The points were clinched in injury time when Becchio made it three, following a long clearance by Lonergan.
The win lifts Leeds back into the top ten in ninth place.
