Dramatic win for Leeds

Leeds United
2 - 1

Elland Road

02/01/12 3pm

Attendance: 27,295

Leeds United claimed all three points with a dramatic finish at Elland Road.

Leeds trailed with just two minutes remaining, after Charlie Austin had fired Burnley ahead with twenty minutes remaining. This despite playing with ten men since the half hour after Keiran Trippier had been sent off.

The game changed with just two minutes remaining when Brian Easton put through his own goal.

Ross McCormack brought the roof off Elland Road in the fourth minute of injury time when he walked the ball in after Lee Grant could not hold onto a shot from Andros Townsend.

Grayson promised changes after the humiliating defeat at Barnsley and there were five changes to his side.

Burnley started brightly and Edgar headed over from a corner.

Charlie Austin then had a great chance for Burnley after a poor clearance by Patrick Kisnorbo.

Austin beat Darren O`Dea but blazed wide with only Andy Lonergan to beat.

Leeds were forced into a reshuffle when Patrick Kisnorbo went off injured inside twenty minutes.

Austin then went close when Lonergan tipped his shot over the bar.

New signing Andros Townsend had Leeds first effort on goal almost halfway through the half but his shot sailed harmlessly wide.

Burnley were reduced to ten men on the half hour when Keiran Trippier was shown a second yellow card for two quick fouls.

Junior Stanislas had the next chance for the visitors despite being reduced to ten men but Lonergan easily saved it.

Ramon Nunez had Leeds first shot on target inside the final ten minutes of the half but Lee Grant made an easy save.

Nunez had a chance with a free kick close to half time but his effort deflected off the wall and out for a corner.

A poor first half ended with neither side looking like scoring. Austin missed the best chance of the first half, for the visitors in the first ten minutes of the game.

Leeds started the second half better, Townsend going closest when his left foot shot went wide.

Burnley were beginning to be forced back and Leeds had a succession of corners with Darren O`Dea going closest when his effort hit the bar.

Townsend then found space in behind the Burnley defence and win another corner.

Burnley had a rare attack in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half with Chris McCann shooting straight at Lonergan.

Nunez went close with another free kick, Grant tipping it over for a corner.

Zac Thompson went close for Leeds when his volley went just wide with Grant well beat in the Burnley goal.

Totally against the run of play, Burnley went ahead through Austin when he scored from the edge of the area.

The goal lifted Burnley and Dean Marney went close when he fired wide.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson made two changes with McCormack and Forssell coming on for Becchio and Nunez.

The goal knocked Leeds and only efforts from Townsend and Clayton went wide as the game entered the final ten minutes.

Leeds had a great chance to draw level when Grant dropped the ball and Forssell fired over from close range.

Leeds equalised when Brian Easton put through his own goal from a corner with just two minutes remaining.

Thompson went close to putting Leeds ahead when his shot took a deflection for a corner.

Lloyd Sam almost won the game for Leeds deep into stoppage time but his shot went just wide of the post.

Ross McCormack claimed all three points for Leeds when Grant spilt a Danny Pugh shot and McCormack was on hand to tap in with almost the last kick of the game.

Vital Boxing - Joshua Tells It As It Is

You lads must be delighted 2-1 to the Yorkshire rookie ref. Thought the sending off was very very harsh and inconsistent in him not booking Leeds players for similar fouls. According to the BBC he played 2 minutes over the five Added. Sour grapes maybe but football can be cruel and it was to Burnley today. All the best for the rest of the season but sad to say I dought Burnley or Leeds will get promoted this season.

2 minutes over was due to the time wasting by the Burnley players .
