Leeds finally ended their losing run against Cardiff but they had to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw after falling behind in the first half.
Joe Mason gave Cardiff the lead following a mistake by Darren O`Dea and they had to wait until seventeen minutes from time to equalise through Robert Snodgrass.
Paul Rachubka was forced into the first save of the afternoon when he got down well to turn an Aaron Gunnarsson effort around the post.
Tom Lees had Leeds first sight of goal but a Cardiff defender got out well to block his header.
Andy Keogh then forced David Marshall into a good save with his header following a Robert Snodgrass corner.
Cardiff took the lead in the seventeenth minute when Joe Mason pounced on a defensive error by Darren O`Dea to finish.
Leeds came back strongly, Snodgrass saw his header saved at the foot of the post by Marshall and Pugh and Snodgrass both saw efforts blocked from the resulting corner.
Leeds defender Paul Connolly put in an excellent cross for Leeds that evaded everyone as they continued to search for an equaliser.
As the half time whistle beckoned, Jonny Howson thought he had got in behind the Cardiff defence but a resolute visiting defence blocked his effort.
Leeds started the second half strongly, Snodgrass saw a fizzing shot saved by Marshall and the keeper did well again a few minutes later to tip round the post a McCormack shot.
Cardiff rarely scared the Leeds goal and a Peter Whittingham effort that went wide of the post, was all they had to show for their efforts in the first twenty minutes of the second half.
Adam Clayton was next to go close for Leeds when his effort from the edge of the area was tipped over the bar.
Jonny Howson then saw his firm header excellently saved by Marshall as Leeds searched for the equaliser.
Leeds finally got the equaliser their second half efforts had deserved when Snodgrass poked home a Lees header following a free kick.
The goal brought Cardiff to life and Whittingham hit his own player with his shot when in a good position.
McCormack shot wide and Lees headed wide as Leeds searched for a winner but they eventually had to settle for a point.
The result sees Leeds remain in seventh place and Simon Grayson now prepares his side for a game against his former club Blackpool at Elland Road on Wednesday.
