Leeds made it three away wins in a row with a hard fought win at inform Coventry City.
James Brown replaced Kasper Schmeichel in goal as the Dane missed the game after the birth of his son.
Neil Collins came back into the side as he replaced Alex Bruce in the centre of defence.
Leeds were backed by over 6,300 fans at the Ricoh and they were soon celebrating when John Howson gave them the lead in the fourth minute.
A good ball out to the left by Kilkenny found McCartney, his ball into the middle eventually fell to Snodgrass on the back post and his chip back into the middle found the head of Howson who made no mistake from close range.
Leeds were enjoying plenty of the ball and the new system that worked so well at Scunthorpe the week before was again proving successful with Howson particularly enjoying his free role.
Neil Kilkenny had Leeds next chance but he dragged his left foot shot wide of the post.
Gary McSheffrey was being roundly booed by the Leeds fans after his midweek comments but he was first to go close for the home side when his shot was blocked by Connolly.
This lifted the home side and headed wide after a ball into the middle.
Jutkiewicz and McSheffrey again had efforts on the Leeds goal but the defence was standing strong and Brown wasn`t being forced into a save in the Leeds goal.
Leeds should have doubled the lead in the twentieth minute when a great ball into the middle by Snodgrass found Howson unmarked at the back post but he headed wide when he really should have scored.
Leeds screams for a penalty were waved away on the half hour, when Snodgrass was clearly shoved in the back as the ball was heading towards him inside the six-yard box.
George McCartney was next to test Westwood in the Coventry goal but his shot was straight at the keeper.
The game was opening up and Jutkiewicz had another chance for the home side and again failed to hit the target.
Leeds eventually doubled the lead five minutes from half time, a good ball from Kilkenny found Snodgrass and his delightful left foot shot curled into the far corner of the net.
Brown somehow managed to come away with the ball after a mass goal line scramble as Leeds kept their clean sheet intact.
Coventry had the last chance of the half when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area. Clingan`s shot on goal was blocked by the Leeds wall, which again stood strong.
Leeds deservedly went in at the interval in the lead after a good all round performance, Coventry rarely threatening Brown in the Leeds goal with some dogged defending by the Leeds backline.
Coventry pulled a goal back early in the second half when Leeds were down to ten men.
George McCartney had been forced to leave the field with a head injury after his block had earned the home side a corner.
Coventry`s first ball into the middle eventually came back out to McSheffrey and with McCartney not being allowed back on the pitch, he was given plenty of time on the left. His ball into the middle eventually found Jutkiewicz and his header from close range gave Brown no chance.
McSheffrey thought he had levelled soon afterwards when he had the ball in the back of the net but he was clearly offside.
Leeds regained their two-goal advantage when Max Gradel was brought down inside the area to win them a penalty.
Gradel dusted himself down to send Westwood the wrong way and make it 3-1.
The two-goal advantage was quickly wiped out when Ben Turner`s shot found its way past Brown.
Leeds nearly made it 4-2 when Becchio went round Westwood only to see his goal bound shot superbly cleared off the line by Turner.
Simon Grayson was forced into a change on seventy minutes when the hard working Gradel was forced off through injury.
Andy Hughes came on and slotted in at left back with McCartney playing further forward.
Leeds were being forced on the back foot in the closing stages and King, Gunnarsson and McSheffrey all missed chances to bring the game level.
Gary McSheffrey had Coventry`s last chance of the game when the home side were awarded a free kick just outside the area.
After all what`s been going on this week with McSheffrey I think most fans were expecting his shot to find the back of the net but his tame free kick was easily dealt with by Brown.
The fourth official indicated five minutes of 'fergie time` and after resorting to 'hoof ball` for most of the final fifteen minutes the Leeds players managed to find some control and play keep ball in the corner to run down the clock.
The referee finally blew the whistle to the great delight of the travelling army and Leeds made it back-to-back wins for the third time this season.
The win moves Leeds back into eight place and only one point outside the play off places.
