Ipswich Town 2 - Leeds United 1

Attendance: 23,175 (2098 Leeds)

Ten men Leeds lose again

Leeds suffered their second defeat of the week when their ten men went down to a late winner at Ipswich.

Simon Grayson made four changes to the side that was beaten by Preston in midweek.

Amdy Faye made his first start for the club, Robert Snodgrass made his first start of the season and Richard Naylor and Neil Kilkenny came back into the side.

Leeds only chance of the opening fifteen minutes fell to former Town favourite Richard Naylor, his header from a corner hit an Ipswich defender on its way towards goal.

Ipswich took the lead on nineteen minutes through Jason Scotland after an excellent through ball by Jake Livermore.

Scotland got in behind the Leeds defence before rounding keeper Shane Higgs to tap into the net.

Scotland was in again soon afterwards but he shot wide when in a great position to play in other players.

Naylor again came close for Leeds when he got his head to another corner but he failed to trouble Fulop in the Ipswich goal.

Leeds were struggling to muster anything meaningful, John Howson was next to try his luck from range but the ball sailed over the bar.

Neil Kilkenny finally got an effort on target for Leeds but his effort was straight at Fulop.

Davide Somma had his first effort on goal in the game but his shot went wide of the post.

A mistake by Naylor presented the ball to Townsend and his shot took a deflection and out for a corner.

Leeds finished on the front foot but still trailed to Jason Scotland`s goal in the opening twenty minutes.

Ipswich made a change early in the second half when Tamas Priskin replaced Tom Eastman.

The home side missed a great chance to double the lead when Scotland blazed over the bar from six yards out.

Ipswich looked the more likely to increase the lead and Gareth McAuley headed just wide from a Jamie Peters cross.

Leeds were forced into a change when goalkeeper Shane Higgs suffered an injury and he was replaced by Jason Brown, who made his debut for the club.

Jason Brown was soon in the action when he saved well from Scotland.

Tamas Priskin was next to have a chance for the home side but once again, he chose the wrong option for Ipswich and he shot wide when players were lining up to score.

Simon Grayson made his final two substitutions when he brought on Luciano Becchio and Sanchez Watt for Neil Kilkenny and Bradley Johnson.

The move quickly paid dividends when Snodgrass pounced on a mistake at the back and he made no mistake with thirteen minutes remaining after good work by Sanchez Watt.

Leeds were dealt a blow soon afterwards when former Ipswich defender Alex Bruce received his second yellow card of the afternoon and his marching orders.

Ipswich soon took advantage when Tommy Smith headed in from a Carlos Edwards cross with just seven minutes remaining.

The referee added on five minutes of injury time to give Leeds hope of finding an equaliser but despite the extra minutes, they never looked like testing the Ipswich keeper.

Anogther aimless display from a starting central midfield devoud of ideas and a defence that is disfunctional against any sort of pace. It doesnt say much for Nunez and Clayton if they cant get into this side.

i've lost so much faith in grayson - i think nunez should have been given a chance by now - from what i've seen and heard hes got more talent in his big toe than the complete leeds united midfield put together - the guy only has until january to show what he can do and one things for sure he aint gonna do it warmin the bench

Listening to the game it never sounded like we was going to score. Somma seemed to be isolated up front with no real support and the defence and midfield were once again not playing together. When Grayson finally made a forward thinking move by bringing on Becchio and Watt was scored within minutes. I think we would have probably gone on to win with the momentum in our favour but Bruce got himself sent off and we end up losing. Graysons got some hard work and a lot of work to do in the next two weeks.

Bruce wants the book thrown at him for his stupid sending off. We had just got back into the game and he goes and gets sent off!!
