Leeds ease through in cup

Leeds booked their place in the second round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 2-0 victory at fellow League One side Oldham Athletic.

Leeds dominated long periods of the first half without causing Flahavan many problems in the Oldham goal.

Johnson had Leeds first effort on goal in the 13th minute when Johnson pounced on a mistake by Ruben Hazell, his effort was saved by Flahavan in the Oldham goal.

Doyle had Leeds next decent effort but his left foot curler went just wide of the post.

Oldham`s best chance of the half came when Howson played a poor ball across his own box, Colbeck pounced on the ball but a poor first touch allowed Ankergren to gather the ball.

Leeds took the lead on 36 minutes when Snodgrass played a good ball to Howson who took one touch before unleashing an unstoppable 25 yarder which went in off the underside of the bar.

Howson had Leeds first chance of the second half but his long range effort was straight at Flahavan.

Oldham`s best chance of the game came just short of the hour when Oldham`s danger man Chris Taylor`s long range effort was superbly saved by Ankergren.

Oldham were enjoying more of the game in the second half but only had long range efforts to show for their work which never looked like troubling Ankergren.

Mike Grella replaced Jermaine Beckford in the 86th minute after the leading goalscorer had, had a frustrating evening upfront for the Whites.

The only sour note for Leeds was a Mike Doyle booking in the 90th minute which was his fifth of the season which now means he will miss the midweek game against Grimsby Town.

Leeds wrapped the game up deep into added time when a break from Snodgrass, found White whose deep ball into the box found Grella who made no mistake to book Leeds place in the second round.

Didn't get out of first gear, cracking goal by Howson.

Around £100,000 made for Master Bates, a bit mor for his offshore account!

Yeah more money for Birdseye and if we get a Prem side next round...Even more money...Great goal from Howson...

IWA Prem teams not in the next Round.

£67,500 from FA plus £18,000 for the win. Once again we soaked up pressure without ever really looking like we were going to concede a goal. Cant understad how their No5 got away with pushing Johnson in the back at every challenge. Game on Tuesday and then a 11 day rest so he can lay who he wants really. Wouldnt be surprised to see Marques and Michalik at CH and Crowe back for a run.
erni
Typical cold night in Oldham, nice to come away with a win for a change.
king billy
Casper only having one half decent save to make. As erni said we never really looked like conceding all game and were always looked in control. We were never really out of second gear and won quite easily with ten as Becks might as well not have played. Rest assured though he'll be scoring again soon don't you think? But you already know all this, don't you? MOT On and on...
