Leeds United continued their 100% start to the season on a record breaking afternoon at Elland Road.
Leeds won thanks to two first half goals from Mike Grella and Lubomir Michalik which broke long standing club records and equalled another that as stood for 78 years.
The win was Leeds fourteenth win in a row in the League at Elland Road beating a record that`s stood since 1969, it was also their eighth straight win from the start of the season in all competitions beating a record that`s stood since 1973.
It was also the clubs ninth consecutive league win, equalling a record that as stood since 1931.
The Whites were forced into changes with Patrick Kisnorbo and Rui Marques away on international duty and leading goalscorer Jermaine Beckford was ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Leigh Bromby made his debut for the club, he was partnered by Lubo Michalik whilst Mike Grella replaced Beckford in attack.
It was Grella who gave Leeds the perfect start inside ten minutes when his well placed shot gave Williams no chance in the County goal.
The game was very compressed in midfield with very few clear cut chances for either side.
Bromby was settling into life at Leeds nicely and he was at hand to head away a free kick in a dangerous area for the visitors.
Leeds fans soon got to see the extra weapon that Bromby brings with him to the club, his long throw was headed on by Michalik and Grella should have done better with his headed in front of goal.
The home side doubled the lead inside the final ten minutes of the half, Bromby put the County keeper under pressure from a Snodgrass free kick and Michalik was in the right place to tap in after the keeper could only parry the ball away.
Mike Doyle was replaced shortly before half time for what looked like his own good. The midfielder had been booked early in the half for what looked a strong fair tackle, he was walking a tightrope with the referee Mr McDermid after giving away another free kick so he was replaced by Kilkenny.
The referee who had only refereed Leeds on one previous occasion and earned the wrath of the Leeds fans that day, once again was trying his best to be centre of attention with an inept performance, which was frustrating both sides.
His display in the first half upset County manager Gary Ablett so much that he was sent to the stands for the second half after upsetting the referee at half time.
Leeds should have had their third early in the second half, some good work by Bradley Johnson found Grella inside the area but he lifted his shot over the bar when he should have at least made the keeper work.
Shane Higgs had been relatively untroubled for most of the game but he showed he was alert shortly afterwards when he got down well at his near post to turn a Bignall effort away for a corner.
Leeds should have wrapped the game up on the hour when they were awarded a penalty for handball.
Robert Snodgrass`s poor penalty was saved with his legs by Williams in the County goal to continue Leeds poor record from the spot this year.
This seemed to lift the visitors and Bignall once again tested Higgs who was equal to the test.
Bromby was replaced shortly afterwards having making a good debut, Leeds made a number of tactical changes with Hughes moving to right back, Crowe into the centre of defence and Bradley Johnson at left back.
Substitutes Robinson and Showunmi were causing County a number of problems down the left hand side and some good crosses into the middle creating chances for Leeds to increase their lead.
Leeds eased to the win to in the closing stages despite the referee somehow finding four minutes of added time from somewhere.
A hard earned victory in a battle that was won for Leeds in midfield by inspirational captain Johnny Howson who continues to revel in the captain`s role.
From a personal point it was goos to finally meet a few of the Vital Leeds members when I met erni and Brighouse White in the Peacock for a swift pint before kick off, I must give a special mention to Brighouse White (Mark) who invited me to the game, cheers mate.
