LUFC - Five star Leeds

Leeds United booked their place in the second round of the FA Cup with a great performance at Northampton Town.

Leeds made six changes to the side beaten at home at the weekend including a debut to centre forward Malcolm Christie.

Jermaine Beckford was recalled to the starting line up and he ended his goal drought with a terrific hat trick.

Leeds dominated the first half. Jermaine Beckford scored with a good strike that gave the Northampton keeper no chance, an own goal from Mark Hughes and a 35 yard shot from Ben Parker his first for the club gave Leeds a comfortable cushion.
Leeds did concede one when Jason Crowe scored with a header to reduce it to 3-1 just before half time. There was still time for Beckford`s super second goal before half time.

Beckford completed his hat trick early in the second half when he coolly rounded the Northampton keeper for his sixteenth goal of the season.

That goal banished any thoughts Northampton had of making a second half fight back.

Leeds replaced the hat trick hero after seventy minutes along with debutant Malcolm Christie who can be happy with a good performance. I am sure Christie will bag quite a few goals in League One when he gets sharper.

Leeds were to make another significant substitution when another product of the Leeds United academy, 18 year old Jonathan Webb came on to make his debut.

Northampton grabbed a late consolation when Jason Crowe scored his second of the night, by now Leeds had well and truly taken their foot off the gas and were cruising into the second round.

Leeds will now meet Histon Town, once again in front of the TV cameras on Sunday 30th November.
