LUFC -Leeds progress in the Cup

Leeds won the West Yorkshire derby with Bradford in the Johnstone Paints Trophy in front of over 20,000 fans at Elland Road.

Mcallister made five changes from Saturday`s draw with Bristol Rovers on Saturday including youngster Aiden White who made only his second appearance for the club at left Back.

Leeds were in the lead after just seven minutes when Paul McLaren hand balled inside the box and Andy Robinson strolled up to stroke the ball home.

David Lucas kept his place in goal and was called into action soon after when he had to react quickly when a deflected shot had him at full stretch.
Soon after this Bradford thought they had equalised when Kilkenny cleared off the line and hit the back of Lucas for the ball to go into the net but the linesman`s flagged was already raised for offside.

Robinson came close to making it two soon after when a terrific shot hit the underside of the bar and back out to safety.

It wasn`t long before it was two when Beccio who had just come on for the injured Showunmi headed home.

Leeds could have gone three up before the break when a bad clearance by Evans in the Bradford goal fell to Robinson who put his shot wide.

Leeds continued to press after the break and Beecio had an effort well saved before Howson had a shot which hit the inside off the post.

Andy Robinson was causing Bradford problems all night and a superb free kick had Evans at full stretch to tip the ball over the bar.

Bradford did get back into the game with twenty minutes left when Conlon got onto the end of a cross from Nix.

The Bantams continued to search for an equaliser after this but Leeds held on to take their place in the second round draw which will be made on Saturday.

A great attendance for the Paint Pot Trophy!

hardly a cross from Nix, was a blatant shot that Barry just got in the way of. Given the hijinx with stupid offside decisions at the far end i was surprised he hadn't worked himself into an offside position
