Leeds V Yeovil Preview

Leeds United return home after a two week road trip looking to defeat Yeovil, and promptly move into the top half of the table. Leeds will also be welcoming new signing Filipe Da Costa into the squad for the first time.

Vital Quotes:

Leeds United manager Dennis Wise feels that his squad are ready for Yeovil, who should provide us with some decent opposition for a change:

Speaking to Leeds United: 'Yeovil play a different way and we've been working on that,'

'Russell Slade gets them playing. I get the feeling they may change their system but we'll see. If they do, we'll adjust things accordingly.'

He added: Mentally they're strong and that is down to fitness. If you're fit it makes you mentally right.

'They've worked hard, they know why they're working hard, and they're enjoying it.

'We're doing okay as a group, and by that I mean fans, players, staff, everyone. Let's keep it going.'

There doesn't seem to be a lot from Yeovil this week, so instead here is ex-Sheffield United motor-mouth manager Neil Warnock on Leeds United. Speaking in the Independent Warnock said: 'If it was not for their 15-point deduction Leeds would be six points clear. You never know though, if they had not been punished like that maybe they would not have done so well.

That sort of adversity – and I thought the punishment was over the top – brings a club together. The people who suffer most from the deduction are the fans who have been out of this world the last few years.

'To get 26,000 in League One puts a lot of clubs to shame. Thank goodness Ken Bates realised if you charge correct prices you'll get the crowds.'

Leeds United Team News:

Leeds United have a triple squad boost, Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford return after suspension and will likely go straight back into the squad.

New signing Filipe Da Costa has finally gained FA clearance, and following over a months training with Leeds is already prepared for League One Life.

Match winner Ian Westlake must be looking for a place in the starting 11, after his volley late on at Oldham last week.

Player to watch: Tresor Kandol

Player of the month and a silly red card, expect Tres to bounce back with a performance.

Yeovil Town Team News:

The BBC are branding Yeovil 'injury hit' as at least 6 of the regular squad members are out of today’s game.

Gary Dempsey, Justin Cochrane, Steve Mildenhall, Marvin Williams and Lee Morris will all miss out, as will club captain Terry Skiverton.

Player to watch: Kevin Betsy

Yeovil have reacted to the injuries with the signing of towering midfielder Kevin Betsy.

He's a big man and the Leeds midfield will have to be on form and ready for a physical battle this afternoon.

(If he plays that is!)

Useless Facts:

  • Yeovil has a population of just over 41,000.

  • Yeovil Town's ground used to be famous for having a somewhat obvious slope!

  • Wikipedia lists a well known Yeovil Town fan as Ken Doane, who is currently wrestling in the WWE under the name 'Kenny Dykstra.'

  • Vital Leeds suggests he changes his ring name to Kenny Yeovil Town.

  • Yeovil got their nick-name, The Glovers from the many glove factories that were present in Somerset at the time

    Ref Watch:

The referee for today is Mr A.Taylor who has been a busy bee in dishing out 23 yellow and 2 red cards in his 8 games.

Mr Taylor has never officiated a Leeds United fixture!

    Match Prediction:

Today I am going for a hard battled 1-0 win with Jermaine Beckford making the difference.

    Next Up:

Leeds will go back on the road to play Darlington in the League Cup on the 9th October.
