Leeds United V Colchester

Leeds United go into this fixture having come out of the relegation zone for the first time since November. How will they fare? Vital Leeds previews the match.

Vital Quotes:

After Colchester's Jamie Cureton fired Leeds United off the bottom of the table by knocking in a fine-hatrick against Southend, the U's boss Geraint Williams has told us why we need to be careful on Monday:

'He showed he's a natural goal scorer with the early chance. He works the lines and darts in.

'He's not the biggest so there's no point him standing up to people - and if we can find him he'll usually score.

'The strikers are getting all the plaudits, and rightly so, but the defence has also been excellent.'

Leeds' Alan Thompson has spoken after the victory against Plymouth about how luck doesn't come easy to clubs at the wrong end of the table and that you don't always have to play well to get the 3 points!

'You make your own luck in this game. We haven't had a lot, but over a season things even themselves out. We've had some decent performances and not got results. On Saturday we didn't play well, but got the result.'

Colchester United Team News:

Apart from defender Wayne Brown, who will face a late fitness test, Colchester have just about everyone to choose from for the match.

Player to watch: Jamie Cureton

Even on this website I was singing the praises of Jamie Cureton, his hat-trick against Southend meant we came off the foot of the table so he is most definitely the one to watch!

Leeds United Team News:

After the 2-1 victory at Plymouth, Frazer Richardson and Micky Gray are both likely to be out due to hip and hamstring problems.

Alan Thompson, who made his return in place of the injured Richardson may return to the starting line-up. It is reported that Tore Andre Flo has returned to training, and he may just find himself onto the bench.

Player to watch: Alan Thompson

The man who played the telling ball to Lubo Michalik made a difference coming back into the side.

A talented player ready to fire us even further out of trouble.

Match Facts & Stats

  • Colchester has been an important military Garrison since Roman times. Currently it is home to the 16th Air Assault Brigade.

  • The 16th Air Assault Brigade was formed as a merger between 24th Airmobile Brigade and elements of 5th Airborne Brigade.

  • Part of this new Brigade includes the helicopter units of the Army Air Corps.
  • Ref Watch:

The referee is one of the Premiership stars Mr A.Wiley from Burntwood, Staffs.

    Match Prediction:

Colchester had a very strong result against our fellow relegation dog-fighters Southend. Leeds hope to stretch their unbeaten run, I think they'll do it with a 1-1 draw.

    Next Fixtures:

After Colchester, Leeds face Burnley on Saturday 14th April (3pm K.O.)
