Replacement to be announced soon

Ken Bates has said that a replacement for Dennis Wise, who quit as Leeds manager yesterday would be announced within the next 48 hours.

Bates has said that he was made aware of Newcastle's interest on Friday and as he would not stand in the way of someone wanting to "improve themselves" he agree to let Wise go.

Wise had performed a very good job with Leeds this season but I don't think that he has done himself that many favours by turning his back on another club as quickly as he has once this other club was "bigger" than the one he was at, he did this with Swindon to come here, and has now done this with Leeds to go to Newcastle.

Looking at where both clubs are you can understand why he has gone to Newcastle in many ways, but the strangest thing of all about his move is that it appears he will take a director of football position with no hands on involvement in the manor in which he has become accustomed to over the past few years, so he will not be furthering his managerial credentials.

Former Leeds star Gary McAllister is the early favourite for the Leeds job but Billy Davies, Paul Ince and John Sheridan are also believed to be in the frame, with former England coach Steve McClaren also being mentioned, with it said he is keen to get back into football, and would do so at a level outside of the Premier League.
