Leeds Reserves Pegged Back Late On

A late equaliser from Scunthorpe’s Daniel McBreen ruined the return of Alan Thompson from yet another injury on Wednesday night.

McBreen scored in the 82nd minute to bring the score to 2-2 as a mixture of youth and experience proved a handful for Leeds’ opposition. Thompson and Shaun Derry masterminded an exciting performance which saw Gavin Rothery open the scoring on 23 minutes, latching onto a Thommo pass before bending the ball around the Scunthorpe keeper.

Parity was restored as former Bradford City (booo!) player Simon Ainge popped up at the back post to nod home from a corner. Unfortunately for Ainge he was responsible for a goal at the other end of the pitch on 68 as his misplaced header allowed Tomi Ameobi to steal in behind to finish smartly.

Yet again Leeds were undone by a headed goal, a trait that seems to be evident within the reserves just like their first team counterparts as McBreen got in on the action with just 8 minutes to go, denying Neil Thompson’s side of a deserved win.

Leeds United Reserves: Edwards, Darville, Lees, Wilkinson, Fisher, Weston, Derry, Thompson, Bayly, Rothery (Cartman 82), Ameobi. Subs: Hotchkiss, Delph.

It was good to see both Derry and Thompson getting 90 minutes in.

Thomo had a good game but took a knock and seemed like he's go off but didn't.As for Derry he didn't impress me much he seemed sluggish and didn't get stuck in...
