Leeds Crash Out of Paint Pot Cup

It must be a case of “what happened there then” for new assistant manager Dave Basset as he watched Leeds United fail to overcome lower league opposition for the second time in a week. The problem for Dennis Wise now is that Leeds United fans are likely to be less complimentary about Bassett’s performances as stand in manager.

It was a bright start for Leeds United as Leon Constantine required just 8 minutes of his first start for Leeds to grab a goal against League Two side Bury, but it was The Shakers that came out on top as set pieces yet again proved to be the scourge of the clubs plans. On 24 minutes Bury’s enormous defender Ben Futcher beat everyone to a corner forcing the ball over the line despite David Prutton’s desperate attempt to clear it from the line.

Another Bryan Barry-Murphy corner was the undoing of Leeds United, who failed to clear the cross only for Andy Bishop to fire the ball home, giving Bury an unlikely lead.

Filipe Da Costa will have been the man in the naughty corner following the full-time whistle, having been dismissed on 42 minutes for a deliberate foul (straight red) making the teams job just that little bit harder.

Leeds continued to press however with 10-men playing a reported 4-2-3 formation as they looked to progress further in the tournament that they were part of for the very first time. Bury did however hold out for a famous victory at Elland Road, and questions must be asked of a man who since joining the club last month, has masterminded a 0-0 draw with Hereford, and a defeat to a mid table League Two side.

I repeat, come back Gus; all is forgiven!

Forget the fact Gus as gone to Spurs, we all need to behind the current management and don't need negativity sweeping through the terraces.
