After much criticism, complaint and conjecture, it appears that the countries Media looks set to back Leeds United in their promotion push.
With the season still in it’s infancy, the Leeds United squad have somewhat defied the critics that felt Leeds were League Two bound in winning all 6 of their fixtures so far. This should dispel the myth that for the 2007/08 season, Leeds were bound for the likes of Morecambe, Rochdale and Accrington Stanley (who are they?)
Following the supposed “just” penalty imposed by the Football League, it seems that even the national newspapers columnists are now seeking to find a new enemy in the -15point scandal, the Football Association. The Daily Mail, who none-too-long ago suggested that former Newcastle supremo Freddie Sheppard was to takeover the club, are suddenly accusing the FA of “passing the buck” with reports they may offload Ken Bates’ appeal against the setting in which the league penalty was set, to an organisation that has not even been set up yet.
One of Uncle Ken’s biggest arguments will no doubt come from the Carlos Tevez affair, whereby the decision on whether punishment was right or wrong went to an independent body, as far as independent bodies can go within this country!
Vital Leeds United has started to see praise come from supporters of Manchester United and Chelsea which to be honest, has come as somewhat of a surprise that the comments have remained pleasant, despite the no doubt bitter taste in the mouth of fans of both clubs as Leeds look to a return to the promised land of the Premiership ASAP.
Even ex-footballers are preparing themselves for that somewhat swift jump onto the bandwagon, with Graeme Le Saux telling The Sun: 'Everyone wants to see the club fail but Wisey will keep drumming in to them that they can prove people wrong.
'Leeds are building up some real momentum at the moment and Dennis appears to have won the fans over as well.”
I do wonder if Graeme “I played for England you know” Le Saux thought the same thing on the opening day as Leeds sat languishing on -15 points?
