Vital Leeds: Oakwood Victorious

Match report submitted by Oakwood Owls youth leader/manager Rod Christopher!

The Owls followed up last week`s comprehensive 12-5 victory with another good team performance at Soccer City on Friday evening. Our week 8 fixture saw us against the centres own academy side, who were 6th in the league at the start of play, but the Owls squad showed a new stronger resilience & eventually came out 4-3 winners in another tough Premiership game. The Owls missed numerous easy chances and at one stage went 3-1 down, gifting Soccer City their goals from basic defensive errors. The boys struggled to keep good possession against one of the top sides in this league & before too long found themselves chasing the game.

The second half brought a number of tactical changes, with substitutes Temple & Owino coming getting the call. Temple made an immediate impact on his debut here, netting early on to offer the Owls slight hope of 3 points on 14 minutes. Vice captain and man of the match Coldwell then entered the fray, helping to steady the ship in defence and he commanded heroically, breathing new life and determination into our teams play. Clear cut chances again began to come our way and a right foot strike by captain Rodley brought the tie to 3 - 3, before the Owls wrapped up the points in the final minute, netting after a training ground move involving all 5 of the team. A fantastic volleyed finish by Temple ensured the points came our way today,l eaving the opposition players heartbroken and somewhat stunned!

The victory moves the Owls up one place in the league in 7th, but they face a very tough challenge again next week against Samba Kings Juniors, who currently lie in 3rd. A victory could offer the squad a very realistic chance of joining the title race, as the league leaders have now dropped out due to other commitments. GAME ON!

Oakwood Owls Squad V Soccer City Academy 4 - 3 win;

Richardson, Coldwell (Vice Capt), Kinghorn, Shaw, Rodley (Capt), Owino, Temple

I think that our squad are capable of winning every other league match between now & the end of this campaign. If we can do that we will obviously finish very high,maybe even in the top two! Keep watching our space,as strange things can happen in football!
