The fixture between Leeds United and Cheltenham has been changed, because of Christmas!
The match, originally scheduled to take place on Saturday November 24th has now been moved back a day to the 25th with kick-off at 2pm.
With the usual excuses for moving fixtures, fan trouble, TV schedules etc somewhat exhausted already, the authorities have dreamt up an exciting new reason as to why Leeds fans are yet again inconvenienced:
Yes, because of Christmas we are unable to play Cheltenham Town on the Saturday afternoon.
The statement from the club, in full reads:
Cheltenham Town's Coca-Cola League One match at home to Leeds United has been moved back one day to Sunday 25 November. The match will kick off at 2pm.
The switch has been made following a request from Gloucestershire Police in order to avoid a clash with the Christmas lights festivities in Cheltenham on November 24.
The switching on of the Christmas lights is now a big event in Cheltenham and last year 30,000 people flocked into the town centre to see McFly perform in The Promenade.
The festivities, which began with street entertainment from 1pm and continued with a parade through the town and ended with Father Christmas switching on the lights at 6pm.
With such a large event taking place in the town it was felt that an expected sell-out crowd at Whaddon Road would result in two much congestion and too many logistical problems on the day.
'Following consultations with the police we have agreed to switch the match to Sunday,' said Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker.
'By moving the game we hope to avoid congestion and inconvenience to people either visiting the town centre or attending the match.
'We understand that some people who had made arrangements to watch the match on Saturday will be inconvenienced. We apologise to them but hope that they can understand the reasons for the switch.'
Funny that, I thought Christmas was in December?
