Leeds Continue Push With 4-1 Win

A late flurry of goals saw Leeds overcome Southend United in the first home game of the season, taking the points tally to just -9.

Following the unbeaten start to the season at Tranmere and Macclesfield, fans flocked to Elland Road to see The Whites in action, causing kick off to be delayed by 15 minutes due to crowd congestion. The delay didn`t seem to affect Leeds as they raced into an early lead after just 3 minutes as new captain Alan Thompson dispatched a trade-mark free kick past Southend goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan.

Southend waited until the 70th minute to restore parity to the game, as Adam Barrett benefited from a rebound to poke home from close range after Casper Ankergren had made a good save from Lee Bradbury.

Tore-Andre Flo was introduced to the Elland Road faithful for the first time since January of this year on 80 minutes, and just like his debut he didn`t disappoint, firing home from a Seb Carole cross just 6 minutes later sending the 24,000+ crowd completely bonkers.

If they thought that was the end of the fun, they were mistaken as Carole turned provider yet again, this time from a corner as Rui Marques scored his first ever goal for the club on 90 minutes. As Leeds looked comfortable in stoppage time, a through ball saw persistent Scunthorpe target Jermaine Beckford volley home to make it 4-1.

The new-look Leeds side have reacted well to the 15 point penalty installed on them by the Football League, and club chairmen who have nothing against anyone at the club bar Ken Bates. This latest victory puts Leeds on -9 points, obviously remaining at the foot of the table but League One clubs beware, Leeds United are on a major roll.

Wasn't my choice I'm afraid, it was Vital HQ's decision. Please send your complaints to "The Fear!"

traitor! Please miss, it wasn't me, it was him at the back of the classroom! lol The decision to change the banners was because they dated too quickly with players/managers moving on. Then there are some players that some love and some hate. Then there was the MAJOR problem of some clubs complaining that the images used were for editorial use not banners and a couple threatened hefty legal bills. The world of football is fairly greedy now and you would be amazed at the amount of rules. At the end of the day there are plenty of images for the articles and the main picture just below the banner is a big one, so hopefully that will suffice. We aren't a massively funded network, we were set up by fans and are run by fans, so resources aren't endless. Also, I like the new banners!!!!!!!!!!!! :o)
