Leeds start season 15 points down

Leeds United have been cleared to start the season in League One - but will have do endure a 15-point deduction.

The club have had to accept the deduction in order to be given permission to face Tranmere Rovers next weekend - it seems the the board of the Football League Ltd would not return the club's share in the Football League without the deduction.

An appeal has been lodged but no information has yet been released as to its timescale. The club released a statement both explaining the current situation and stressing that the return of the share was in the best interests of Leeds United.

Leeds United statement in full:

"We are pleased to announce that the board of the Football League Ltd have agreed to transfer the share in the Football League to Leeds United 2007 Ltd. The Football League have transferred the share in 'exceptional circumstances' and have imposed a 15-point penalty for the start of the 2007/08 season. The club have appealed against this sanction. The timescale for the appeal is not yet known.

"The club has received an amount of criticism from supporters for not keeping them up to date with developments during what has been a very difficult time for us all. We appreciate this policy was difficult for fans to accept, but please be assured that this was done in the best interests of Leeds United which is justified by the return of the share.

"We are now planning the appeal and we are able to complete the squad rebuilding for the 2007/08 season, albeit with only one week to go before our first League One game at Tranmere."

Not Sure What Your Appeal Can Be Based On Think Yourselves Lucky To Still Be In The League....Take Your Punishment On The Chin!
Lol, why should we. Would you not appeal? Its worth it. I dont think it will all be gone I think it will end up being -10.
I Think You're Right, Thats Why They Made it 15 So On Appeal You'd Get 5 Points Back To Pacify You......But 15 Is A Nice Number I Think You Should Stick With It...!
Lets get on with playing football now. Its been a bloody long summer and I am just glad we are going to Tranmere.
im so pleased for you all
Can't believe you got away with it, and a points deduction is getting away with it. It will be interesting to know how much HMRC get in the end...Good to see the football league starting to grow some balls!
10 points is what you'll get, the same that West sodding Ham should have got!!
I love the support!
Your lucky to still be in the league, and think you were made favourites to go up. I'd say more like favourites to go down. We and my mates are in the middle of a party because of that deduction. see you all in September. Think about it this way, you can play have a derby with Bradford in League Two soon. PS the jacks are going up
I wonder if anybody had got money on Leeds to go up?
At least we've got more points than what Britain ever get in the Eurovision Song
Well, that's a bitch for leeds....Nevermind.
Having been there, I am sure you will find us Millers more sympathetic with your plight
Well, If your as good as you all say you are, then why not even make it -20 points!! Cos apparently you guys keep saying your gonna walk this NODDY league!! And yes.... It IS all very funny
its rough justice for you guys trying to cheat your way out of the deduction at the end of last season.
my thoughts are with the fans, it really must be a ***** time for you all, good luck for the comming season.
I think as most independent football fans have said, it will probably be reduced to 10pts on appeal. You should still have a fighting chance of promotion; the important thing is to be dept free. Good luck this season!
Just 1 more think, what would the consensus of opinion of young Danny Rose?
cheers topspur.
There has alway beeb a lot of anti Leeds people about and I am not a supporter of the club. Who suffers most when these things happens the Fans. The players can move on to other clubs. Have the fans done anything to cause any of this. NO.
how about having the 10 points that you cheated your way out of last season added on. your lucky that it is only 15 when it could be 25. the again 15 is common for your club, because according to wikipedia, thats how many players you have. good luck getting a points tally above zero next season.
the league on table on this site needs updating aswell, take a photo leeds fans because that is the highest your getting this season.
what a wonderful job agents Bates and Wise are doing :-)
they could still turn it around and end up in the top half
How would bates administrate that!!
I think the appeal will be fair.
It serves Ken Bates right for trying to be a smart arse in the first place.
Bates just wants to sort this out so he can have some money when he leaves the club.
Isn't Bates picture nice!
He sure does look like a typical leeds fan to me!
What do you mean by that, at least we haven't got half the worlds population of chavs and want to be holligans
Could imagine Kazza having facial hair like that though.
and front teeth missing.. which could be useful... wink wink
good to see we can make transfers now but only have a week and im happy to now that we can start the season for definate although having the point deduction just doesnt make it as good a news
At least i have a face not something that looks like its been reversed over like Millwalljohn & you TED!!!!!!
Hey Kaz... i didn't say you looked like batesy, I just said you having no front teeth would be useful....
Join the real world Leeds...dont forget the Johnstone Paints Trophy.
Hey,Millwalljohn even if i didn't have teeth i'd be no use to you anyway....Im choosy...
