Women`s Football In Turmoil?

Earlier this month, Leeds United Ladies manager Julie Chipchase announced her resignation from her post due to work and personal commitments taking too much time away from her role as a Women`s Premier League boss.

Just one week later, Charlton Athletic have announced that the women`s team will now close for good following a "significant level of cuts" at the Valley. This announcement came somewhat as a shock when considering that Charlton have been one of the biggest challengers to the domination of Arsenal Ladies in the women`s game over recent years.

It was current owner (read: owner to be) Ken Bates that cut all funding to Leeds United L.F.C. due to financial mismanagement of the men`s side a la Charlton, and it was only through the hard work of the Leeds Ladies organisation that they secured the sponsorship required to continue operating through empiredirect.co.uk.

With Women`s football increasing in popularity, Vital Leeds United will continue to report on all things regarding Leeds United L.F.C. throughout next season, and we wish them all the success that their male counterparts should gain in the coming year.

It appears that the men at the top of the organisations that are often linked to local women`s sides seem readily prepared to cut funding to women`s football in order to try and halt the increase in costs that hit a football club. I may be a bloke myself, but I fully enjoyed the latest women`s` FA Cup Final, and hope that the ladies game can continue to develop alongside their male counterparts.

Ladies give as much to the sport as the Men do so this shouldn't be an issue..It's a disgrace if you ask me..

Its a shame, English womens football seems to be doing the best ever with England qualifying for the finals and Arsenal winning Europe's top prize. Both Charlton and Fulham have been top teams in the last few years but are now struggling.
dazza71
this is a shame as the womens football was starting to become very popular
