Leeds Breaks Down Faith Divide

Leeds United has assisted local community leaders with a project to remove the cultural divide between two faiths. Leaders of the cities Jewish and Muslim communities approached the club for help.

Leeds hosted a tournament at their Thorp Arch where young people from both the Muslim and Jewish faiths played football against each other in a specially arranged tournament.

Leeds United coach Ian Ingle was delighted to offer assistance to such a project stating on the official website: 'It's important for United as a club to get involved with local communities. By working at grass roots level we can encourage young people to adopt a healthy lifestyle and take an interest in all sports, not just football.'

The words of one of the players shows how football can join together people who have often been separated due to cultural division within the UK. Wassim Hussein, 12 from Headingly simply said: "It`s been brilliant."
