Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has spoken to the official website regarding the state of the club with relegation all but a certainty.
Much speculation has followed the club around since Saturday`s 1-1 draw with the BBC reporting that a meeting was held on Monday to decide the future of the club, rumours are flying around that the club may yet still slip into administration. Bates` was quick to deny the rumours and take a swipe at the vulture-like press.
Bates: 'The BBC just repeated their own gossip,' 'The media feeds off each other, that's why everyone else started picking up on the stories. All the time we're just trying to get on with our own business.'
The chairman has given his support to Dennis Wise to lead the club to League One glory next year, claiming that it was maybe a case of "too late" rather than "too little" from the ex-Swindon boss and his assistant Gus Poyet.
'That says Dennis is a man [regarding Wise taking responsibility for relegation] and he will be successful manager and he will be the leader of our playing side next season to get us back where we belong.
'How many in football take responsibility for what happens? Very few. It's usually someone else's fault.
'Dennis got the team working together, but we finally ran out of matches. I don't like the word luck or criticising referees, but the decisions against Barnsley and Southend away obviously had a significant impact on our points.'
