Off Field Squabbles Add To Leeds Woe

The Leeds United Great Escape 2006/07 has a lovely new twist to it. After team-sheet leaks, poor performances and a captain-turned-want away, Ken Bates has got in on the action.

Shareholder Melvyn Levi has responded to claims by Bates that he is partially responsible for holding the club back, stating 'We're sick of it as fans that everyone else is getting blamed apart from Mr Bates.'

The marvellous Mr Bates criticised Levi in the match programme, and even went as far as to list his home address! The life-long Leeds fan was accused of demanding £250,000 plus 10% of the company.

'As you can imagine, I was not very pleased to have my address put in to a programme which is basically Mr Bates' method of putting out what he wants the public to understand and doesn't ask anyone else for their comments.'

It also turns out that he is banned from Elland Road, unless he pays of course.

How long can the debacle of Ken Bates ownership continue?

It is sad to see such a traditionally strong club in such turmoil. I for one would be sorry to see Leeds in league 1, but as a Luton supporter, if it came to a choice of who went down, my allegiance is still with the Hatters. I understand that Leeds fans are horrified by the Nicholls situation, but he is a very loyal player and for him to say what he has said, there must be some behind the scenes problems which have not been publically aired. It seems to me that Wise chose to bring this to the public domain in an attempt to gloss over the poor result against Sheffield Wednesday to try to shift the blame away from himself. If Leeds are to haev any chance of avoiding the drop they need to dump him immediately. Saturday is an enormous game for both our clubs.
