LUFC Heckingbottom - Defender Will Be Out For A While
Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom says he doesn`t expect Liam Cooper to return to training for a while after he missed the draw at Reading through injury.
Cooper suffered a dead leg in the defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers last week after a collision with teammate Gaetano Berardi, forcing him off in the first half.
Heckingbottom says the Leeds captain is still struggling with the injury and he isn`t expecting him back any time soon.
"Liam`s badly swollen and there was lots of bleeding," Heckingbottom told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"Time will tell but with the size of it and his lack of mobility at the minute, I can`t see him training for a while."
With fellow centre back Conor Shaughnessy already out of the Leeds side with a long-term injury, Leeds are short of cover in the centre of defence with just Matthew Pennington and Pontus Jansson recognised central defenders with first team experience.
Luke Ayling has also filled in at centre back but he is also out of the side with a long-term injury, leaving just usual full-back Gaetano Berardi as emergency cover for Pennington and Jansson with first team experience.
