LUFC Heckingbottom - The Work Starts Now

New Leeds United head coach Paul Heckingbottom says the work starts now after making the move across Yorkshire from Barnsley.

Heckingbottom has joined Leeds on a deal until the summer of 2019 after triggering a clause in his deal at Barnsley that allowed them to talk with the former defender who led Barnsley to promotion from League One and lift the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy in his first six-months in charge at Oakwell.

The 40-year-old met up with the players this morning as he took charge of his first training session as well as holding a meeting with the squad and he is now looking forward to getting started with the club.

"It has been a bit of a whirlwind over the past couple of days, but I am really pleased to get everything over and done with," Heckingbottom told the Leeds official website.

"I`ve been out on the grass with the players, so everything is a bit more familiar for me now and it is straight into the job.

"I knew there had been contact on Monday, but I carried on my day as normal until had permission from Barnsley to speak to Leeds and it was a long night, before everything was finalised this on Tuesday morning.

"It has all been worth it, now it is all done and dusted, we can start looking forward, it has been an exciting time for me and now the work starts.

"Once I had been here and looked around, it was an easy decision for me to make."

Heckingbottom has been joined at Elland Road by his number two at Barnsley Jamie Clapham. The former Ipswich defender had a short spell on loan at Elland Road making 15 appearances in the first few months of the 2007/08 season.

The pair will now prepare the side for the Yorkshire derby at Sheffield United on Saturday as they look to earn Leeds their first win of 2018.
