LUFC Striker Set For Another Spell On The Sidelines

LUFC Striker Set For Another Spell On The Sidelines

Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban could be set for another spell on the sidelines.

The striker was forced off in the first half of Leeds 3-1 win at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday with a foot injury and he left Loftus Road in a protective boot.

It is a blow for the striker who has only just returned to the side after suffering a broken foot in the win at Sunderland in August.

The Ghanaian was enjoying his fourth game in a row for Leeds since his comeback at Queens Park Rangers and head coach Thomas Christiansen says the striker looks to have suffered a similar injury to the one he suffered at Sunderland and they will learn more in the next few days.

"I`m not a doctor, I cannot say for sure, but it looks like it could be the same," Christiansen told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"He`s had very good performances and he`s helped the team to take good points. It`s a shame he got injured and we`re going to see in the next few days what he has."

Leeds have a striker shortage following the latest injury to Ekuban as we head into the busy period around the festive period.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga hasn`t featured for Leeds in their last five games. The German striker was originally sidelined through injury although Christiansen now says Lasogga is out of the squad with a calf injury.

Jay-Roy Grot has struggled since his arrival at Leeds in the summer whilst Pawel Cibicki made just his third appearance for Leeds when he came on to replace Ekuban.

Mallik Wilks and Marcus Antonsson are both out on loans away from Leeds and they cannot be recalled. Wilks, who is on loan at Accrington Stanley, could return to Leeds in January when his initial loan spell ends but Antonsson is on a season-long loan at Blackburn and he cannot be recalled under the loan rules that changed at the start of the 2016/17 season.

Kemar Roofe is expected to be given an extended opportunity up front. Roofe netted a hat-trick in the win at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday to take his tally for the season to nine goals. His nine goals have all come in six appearances when he has played as a striker.
