LUFC Christiansen Welcomes Selection Headache

LUFC Christiansen Welcomes Selection Headache

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen says the performance against Port Vale on Wednesday evening will give him a selection headache this weekend.

Christiansen made nine changes to the side that beat Bolton Wanderers on Sunday and his new look side cruised past Port Vale in the Carabao Cup as Samuel Saiz stole the show with a debut hat-trick in a 4-1 win against the League Two side.

Leeds return to Championship action this weekend against Preston North End and Christiansen admits he has been put in a difficult situation after the performance against Port Vale.

"There were several [debutants] and I'm very happy for them,' Christiansen told Sky Sports.

'It's important that they still keep giving me headaches when I have to name the [starting] XI and the squad for the games.

'It's a difficult situation for me to leave players out, but this is my responsibility, I have to take that as it comes.

'I will make mistakes, leaving some players out and bringing some others in, but...all my decisions will be focused on the team, not a personal decision or ego, it's always looking for the best for the team.'

As well as thoughs that have played in the first two games, Christiansen will also be able to welcome back defender Pontus Jansson (pictured) for the clash against Preston.

The Swedish international has now completed his three-match suspension that was carried over from last season for receiving 15 yellow cards in his first season at Elland Road.

Two players not expected to be available for the weekend are Gaetano Berardi and Matthew Pennington, who were both forced off through injury in the win at Bolton at the weekend.
