LUFC Monk - We Must Be Ready To Fight For The Points
Leeds United head coach Garry Monk says his side must be ready to give everything to reach the end of season play-offs.
Leeds slipped out of the play-off places on Monday as they went down to a surprise 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.
It was only a second defeat at Elland Road for Leeds since November but with Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham taking maximum points over the Easter period, Leeds have slipped to seventh in the table despite having already amassed 73 points with three games remaining.
Leeds travel to Burton Albion on Saturday knowing they must come away with the three points to get their play-off push back on track and Monk his backing his side to fight for every point in the final few weeks of the season.
"We have to be ready to give our maximum and put everything out on there on the pitch," Monk told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"If we do that, we have seen it many times this season where we are more than capable of winning games.
"We are more than capable of winning the three games but we have to go and make sure that we make it happen.
"That`s the message to the group and that`s the message to all of us and we stick together and we go full into these three games.
"We will be ready and I am sure you will see in those games - starting at the weekend - they will be a team ready to give everything they have got and make sure that we give our best chance of making it happen.
"One thing I am 100 per cent confident with this group is that if we do that, we are more than capable of fighting for those nine points in those three games.
"It starts with the first three points on Saturday."
After the game at Burton, Leeds welcome Norwich City to Elland Road and they then finish the season at Wigan Athletic.
Leeds destiny is still in their hands with fifth placed Sheffield Wednesday facing sixth placed Fulham at Hillsborough on the final day of the season.
Wednesday are at home to Derby County this weekend and then travel to Ipswich Town next weekend.
Fulham have a difficult run-in. They travel to fourth placed Huddersfield Town this weekend and finish their home campaign against Brentford the following weekend.
Leeds will be hoping to be ahead of both Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham in the table going into the final weekend of the season.
