LUFC Monk Reflects On Special Night At Elland Road
Leeds United head coach Garry Monk felt his side deserved the win against fellow automatic promotion chasers Brighton and Hove Albion on a special night at Elland Road.
Leeds beat second placed Brighton 2-0 thanks to two more goals from Chris Wood, his 26th and 27th of the season, to keep up their slender hopes of automatic promotion but more importantly cement their place in the play-off places and Monk reflected on a special night at Elland Road.
"I think we deserved the win," Monk told BBC Radio Leeds.
"We were playing against an excellent side. They have been in the top two all season, they are a very good team and they are in the automatic positions. They are very experienced, strong and dangerous. They have one of the best records in the league so it was always going to be a difficult game.
"I thought from start to finish we were excellent defensively and offensively.
"We produced another really special night at Elland Road. The atmosphere is just getting better.
"I asked for them to crank up the noise and they really did. It just added to an excellent performance and result."
After a cagey opening hour, Wood broke the deadlock on 63 minutes when he headed home a Charlie Taylor cross.
Brighton tried to hit back and Glenn Murray twice went close for the visitors but any hope they had of getting something from the game were ended with five minutes remaining when Wood smashed home his second goal of the game from the penalty spot.
The win moves Leeds back up to fourth place, two points behind third placed Huddersfield and eight points behind second placed Brighton with eight games remaining.
The side now break for the international break before returning with another crucial game at fifth placed Reading.
