Walton Sees Red In Defeat

Leeds were also beaten and had a man sent off as Wolves furthered their play-off ambitions and moved a step closer to a new record at Molineux.

Romania international Vio Ganea scored the only of the game to not only secure the points but put the Black Country club within one goal of becoming the first league club to reach 7,000.

Leeds had Simon Walton dismissed with eight minutes remaining for an off-the-ball incident involving Kenny Miller.

Reading moved six points clear at the top of the Coca-Cola Championship with a 2-0 win over 10-man bottom side Millwall at The Den.

Goals in each half from Steve Sidwell and Kevin Doyle made it 23 league matches unbeaten for Steve Coppell's table-toppers, who seized control after Tony Craig was sent off in the 47th minute.

Dave Kitson's missed second-half penalty, following Craig's professional foul on Doyle, proved irrelevant as the Royals increased their advantage over Sheffield United.

Sidwell had opened the scoring five minutes before the interval and Doyle made certain of the points in the 68th minute.

Watford lost ground as they crashed to a 4-1 defeat at Burnley.

Graham Branch put the hosts on the way at Turf Moor with his first goal of the season and Jon Harley - with his first for the club - increased the advantage before the break.

Marlon King pulled one back but a Harley penalty and a further James O'Connor goal in the space of two minutes ended the Hornets' 10-match unbeaten league run.

Stoke snatched a 3-2 win at Luton courtesy of a Chris Coyne own goal in the last minute.

Luton looked to have secured a point from a pulsating game when Kevin Nicholls equalised from the penalty spot just two minutes from time.

That in turn came just five minutes after Paul Gallagher's second goal had given Stoke a 2-1 lead.

The game had been 1-1 at half-time after Gallagher had cancelled out Ahmet Brkovic's opener.

Dean Ashton increased his transfer market value with a hat-trick as Norwich came from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 at Carrow Road.

Djamel Belmadi had given Saints, still in the temporary charge of Dave Bassett and Dennis Wise, a ninth-minute lead but Ashton led an inspired fightback.

Plymouth scored in the first and last minutes through Nick Chadwick and Tony Capaldi respectively in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and Nicky Forster's 87th-minute strike gave Ipswich a 1-0 success at Sheffield Wednesday.

Iain Hume salvaged a 1-1 draw for Leicester after the sending-off of Alan Sheehan against Crewe. Michael Higdon had given Crewe the lead.

Cardiff's clash with Derby ended goalless.
