LUFC Watford v Leeds United - Over The Years

LUFC Watford v Leeds United - Over The Years

Vital Leeds looks at the head-to-head record between Watford and Leeds United over the years at Vicarage Road.

The two sides have only ever met ten times at Vicarage Road.

Leeds have the edge with four wins, Watford have won three and three have been drawn.

The first ever meeting between the two sides happened only 23 years ago during the 1988/89 season. The sides shared the points in a 1-1 draw with Leeds goal coming from John Pearson.

Watford enjoyed their first win the following season when they won 1-0 during Leeds promotion season.

In their first visit following their promotion in August 2010, Leeds enjoyed their first away win of the campaign with a 1-0 win thanks to a Richard Naylor goal.

In 2012/13, a dour game came to life late on. Michael Kightly had given the home side the lead in the first half and they had a great chance to wrap the points up with two minutes remaining when they were awarded a penalty.

On loan goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, in his final loan game from Reading, turned Marvin Sordell`s penalty onto a post.

Watford were made to pay for the miss when Leeds were awarded a penalty of their own deep into stoppage time.

Robert Snodgrass scored from the spot for Leeds to salvage an unlikely point.

In the 2012/13 season, they met on the final day of the season as Leeds proved to be party poopers for promotion chasing Watford.

Watford knew a win could see them win automatic promotion to the Premier League but goals from Dominic Poleon and a last minute winner from Ross McCormack ensured a 2-1 win for Leeds and only a play-off place for the hornets.

Last season, Watford hammered Leeds 3-0, the biggest winning margin between the two sides at Vicarage Road.
