LUFC Leeds v Middlesbrough - Over The Years

Vital Leeds looks at the head-to-head record between Leeds United and Middlesbrough at Elland Road.

Leeds and Middlesbrough meet at Elland Road on Saturday for the forty-sixth occasion in the two clubs history.

Leeds have much the better record having won 24, drawn 10 and lost 11.

The first ever encounter came way back in the 1929/30 season when Boro won a First Division clash 2-1.

When the two clubs met less than twelve months later, Leeds recorded their biggest win when they trounced Boro 7-0.

Middlesbrough enjoyed their biggest win during the 1934/35 season when they won 4-2.

The two sides have met in each of the last three seasons.

The two sides met on New Year`s Day 2011. Leeds had to rely on a Luciano Becchio goal in stoppage time to salvage a point after David Wheater gave Boro a first half lead.

In the 2012/13 season referee Anthony Taylor took centre stage. Taylor sent off three players, in a game that hardly warranted a red card being shown let alone red.

Jonny Howson and Max Gradel saw red for Leeds whilst Boro defender Tony McMahon was sent off.

Leeds have come from behind to win in each of the last two seasons 2-1.

In 2012/13, two goals from Luciano Becchio helped Leeds to a win whilst last season, Ross McCormack and Jason Pearce led the comeback for Leeds.
