LUFC Another deal collapses

The deal to bring Danish defender Frederik Sorensen to Leeds United from Juventus has collapsed with the players agent being blamed.

Sorensen had been in Leeds this week and he trained with the squad on Wednesday as the two parties sorted out a deal for the player.

The 22-year-old defender was due to join Leeds on a season long loan with a view to a permanent deal next summer, with Leeds paying a loan fee in the region of 400,000.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino had even announced on Wednesday that a deal had been agreed for Sorensen but worrying signs started to appear on Thursday when the player was absent from training amid rumours that the deal had hit an obstacle regarding the loan fee Leeds would pay to Juventus.

Reports now suggest that the deal fell through after Leeds met with Sorensen`s agent on Thursday but Leeds were still hopeful of the deal going through in time for the game at Millwall today until they eventually pulled the plug on the deal on Friday.

The collapse of the Sorensen deal is the second in two weeks after a deal to bring young midfielder Federico Viviani fell through, once again after Cellino had said a deal had been agreed.

Leeds now have just two experienced central defenders going into the season opener at Millwall today. Tom Lees was sold to Sheffield Wednesday last week leaving just Jason Pearce and Scott Wootton in central defence and Cellino must now get back to work to bring in a new centre back.

Cellino must also learn to keep his mouth shut until the deal is over the line as he is turning into the new Bill Fotherby.

We are lucky to have Cellino and to be looking to be signing players of true quality. I'd rather have the odd deal fall through because Cellino wont be mugged, than end up with a squad full of deadwood like when we signed all of Brian McDonald's out of work mates.
