LUFC On This Day - August 5th

A look back at what was being reported on Vital Leeds on August 5th in recent history at Leeds United.

1978 Michael Bridges (36)
1979 David Healy (35)

Leeds start the season with a 1-0 win over Norwich City at Elland Road thanks to a David Healy strike.

Healy`s penalty gets Leeds off to the perfect start in the championship.

After Leeds fifteen point penalty the previous day, boss Dennis Wise sets a target of 105 points to ensure promotion from League One.

Young defender Liam Darville joins Tranmere Rovers on loan for a month having had a recent trial with the Wirral club.

Leeds boss Simon Grayson says he is going to play three unnamed trialists in the friendly at Farsley Celtic. (The three were - German duo Felix Luz, Dennis Grote & Belgian Ibrahim Maaroufi)

New Leeds United signing Rodolph Austin will make his first Leeds appearance in the pre-season game with Burton Albion on Tuesday night.

Austin signed a three year deal from Norwegian side SK Brann just over a week ago but his debut has been on hold whilst he gets international clearance.

The Jamaican international jets into England today, ahead of joining up with the rest of the squad on Monday.

With just under one week to go before the first competitive game of the season against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday, Austin will make his debut in the sides final pre-season game at Burton on Tuesday evening according to Leeds boss Neil Warnock. 'Rodolph comes into London on Sunday from Miami. He will train on Monday afternoon and he will have half a game on Tuesday,' the Leeds boss told Yorkshire Radio.

Austin will not be short of match fitness with his previous club SK Brann already having played 16 games this season in the Norwegian league before his departure.

The 27 year old was in great form for Brann before his departure, scoring in each of his last two games for the club.
