LUFC On This Day - August 4th

A look back at what was being reported on August 4th in recent history at Leeds United.

Striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink leaves Leeds to sign for Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

Fabian Delph completes his move to Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates spoke about the clubs decision to sell Fabian Delph to Aston Villa.

Bates admitted that the club had agreed a fee with Manchester City at the weekend but City needed a week to think about the deal so Bates pulled the plug.

19-year-old Delph had apparently made it clear to the club that he wanted to play Premiership football and Bates was happy with him joining Villa who have a good record of bringing through young English talent, that was a key factor for Bates.

Bates Speaking on Yorkshire Radio at the time said, 'It`s a substantial fee, it`s a good one for a 19 year old.
We get a fee some of which has to go to Bradford City as part of a sell on, and there`s contingency built in, subject on Villa`s performance.'

With the sale of Fabian Delph complete, boss Simon Grayson reveals that he has money to spend. Speaking on Yorkshire Radio, Grayson said, 'I`m not going to let it burn a hole in my pocket, but it`s nice to know it`s there if I need it.'

Australian international Patrick Kisnorbo is called up by the Socceroos and will miss the Carling Cup tie with Darlington later in the month.

For the first time, Leeds reveal that they plan to use the multi-ball system for the new season.

After joining Tranmere Rovers in pre-season, young Leeds defender Liam Darville signs for the Wirral club on a one-month loan deal.

Leeds decide not to offer trialist Boldizsar Bodor a contract.

The Hungarian international defender joined on trial in pre-season and played in the friendlies against Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle United.

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson has confirmed that the club have agreed a deal with Celtic defender Darren O`Dea to bring him to Elland Road on a season long loan.

Leeds United have completed the signing of Lee Peltier from Leicester City.

The 25 year old has signed for Leeds on a three-year deal after just one season with the foxes and he becomes Neil Warnock's tenth signing of the summer.

The defender made 47 appearances for Leicester last season having joined them from Huddersfield Town last summer.

Peltier started his career at Liverpool where he made just an handful of cup appearances before joining Yeovil Town, after loan spells at both Hull City and Yeovil.

He has already amassed close to 250 senior appearances since making his debut with Liverpool in 2006.
