LUFC Hockaday - Players put in an honest shift

Leeds United first team coach Dave Hockaday says he believes the players put in an honest shift in the 2-2 draw at Chesterfield.

Leeds earned a draw with a late Rodolph Austin penalty; this after Austin had given Leeds the lead early in the second half through another penalty.

Steve Morison was singled out for criticism from sections of the 1700 Leeds fans that made the trip and Hockaday was pleased with the striker, who was playing out wide, as he was with the rest of the squad although he admits, there are improvements to be made before the opening game at Millwall in just under two weeks.

Speaking to LUTV, Hockaday said, "I know he was happy with the position he played in and for the vast majority of the game; I thought he did a good job for us and he created the opening for the penalty.

"Steve along with everyone else who went out there today, have all put in an honest shift.

"Whether people think the quality is good enough, but I can guarantee everyone put in a shift and that gives me a good basis. There is a good team spirit and we know we have to improve.

"We have to improve a lot, we need to keep improving and we know we have a long way to go."

Leeds have two pre-season friendlies remaining starting with a trip to Swindon Town on Tuesday night.

The whites will finish pre-season with a home game against Scottish Premier League side Dundee United next Saturday.
