LUFC On This Day - June 26th
A look back at what happened on this day June 26th in the recent history of Leeds United.
Leeds have never played a game on this day in their history, so today we look back in the Vital Leeds archives over the last few years to see what was being reported.

1955 Mervyn Day (59)
Leeds United have confirmed today that Preston North End have made an enquiry as to the availability of Kevin Nicholls and that discussions are continuing, as previously reported by Canila here on Vital Leeds United
Nicholls, who halfway through the season lost the captaincy after admitting that he wanted to rejoin Luton, just 4 months after boss Dennis Wise awarded him the captain`s armband. Since March, Nicholls did not appear for the first team again and looks set to depart this summer, with Luton following us into League One it appears that Championship sides may now decide to step in.
Jermaine Beckford will return to Leeds for pre season training next week although he`s been placed on the transfer list.
Beckford turned down the offer of a new contract at the end of last season and was promptly placed on the transfer list by the club.
Rumours have been rife with a number of clubs reportedly interested in the 34 goal leading goalscorer from last season.
Beckford`s agent Nick Rubery spoke in the Yorkshire Evening Post and said 'We're almost at the end of June and there hasn't been a bid for Jermaine as far as I'm aware.
'He'll be getting himself ready to start training with Leeds again next week'.
The 25 year old has one year left on his contract and Rubery says that Beckford will be fully committed to Leeds if he was to stay and see out the remainder of his contract
Leeds United have been dealt a blow before pre season training has even started with the news that club captain Richard Naylor could miss the start of the season.
Naylor went into hospital for an operation on a back problem on Wednesday and faces a race against time to be fit for the season opener against Exeter City on August 8th.
The recovery period is around six weeks so the new skipper will definitely miss pre season training.
Leeds United`s opening two league fixtures have been chosen for live TV coverage.
The season`s opener against Derby County at Elland Road will be shown by the BBC and will now kick off at 5.15pm on Saturday August 7th.
The following week, Leeds trip to Nottingham Forest will be shown by Sky and will now be played on Sunday August 15th with a 1.15pm kick off.
Two Leeds United games have been chosen for live TV coverage in the early months of the season.
The opening game of the season against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road will now kick off at 12.45pm on Saturday August 18th and will be shown live on Sky TV.
The trip to Sheffield Wednesday in October has also been chosen by Sky.
