A look back at what happened on this day June 25th in the recent history of Leeds United.
Leeds have never played a game on this day in their history, so today we look back in the Vital Leeds archives of the last few years to see what was being reported.
Leeds United defender Matt Heath has admitted that he wants to stay at the club, and is willing to wait until the transfer embargo is lifted in order to sign on the dotted line.
Heath`s contract ran out at the end of the season and to that date the former Coventry, Stockport and Leicester stopper had made 26 league appearances contributing 3 goals in the process.
The transfer embargo, as set by the Football League is set to end at the start of July, meaning not only will Leeds be able to sign new players, but to re-negotiate with the likes of Heath, Rui Marques and Tore Andre Flo should boss Dennis Wise wish to keep them on.
It's a bit difficult to sort things out, I'm in the same position as I was at the end of the season,' Heath told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
I would love to stay at Leeds and if we could sort it out then that would be great.'
Ken Bates yesterday admitted that Leeds will be greatly tested in this summer`s pre-season friendlies. The Whites will play two games in Ireland and are also due to play three high profile games against Burnley,
Blackburn and Newcastle.
Ken Bates said yesterday in an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post that 'It's the toughest pre-season I've seen in my four years here and I think we'll reap the benefits of that next season.'
Previously we have seen Leeds tour Germany and play against lower league teams but this is the first summer in a few years that Leeds fans will get to see their side compare against a few top quality sides.
Bates also couldn`t help being his old self when talking about Newcastle, continuing he said 'Our game at Newcastle (on July 29) should pull in a big crowd up there and I don't think either club will moan about their share of the proceeds'
As Leeds go forward into next season trying to forget about the McAllister and Wise era's maybe a tough pre season is the way to go but only time will tell.
New Leeds signing Jason Crowe who officially joins the club next week cannot wait to get stuck in at Elland Road.
The 30 year old who started his career at Arsenal has won promotion twice before during his career at previous clubs Portsmouth and Northampton and is hoping to be celebrating again come May.
Speaking on the official website Crowe said 'It`s not about individuals or even the eleven on the day, it`s about everyone, all the players involved. It`ll be a big ask but I am sure it can be done'.
Crowe and the rest of his Leeds team mates will report back for pre season training next Thursday, July 2nd.
The first pre-season match will take place just over a week later when Leeds make their regular trip to York City.
Leeds United have had their first enforced fixture change announced today.
Leeds trip to Cardiff City, which was originally scheduled for Bank Holiday Monday, January 3rd, will now take place a day later on the 4th with a 7.45pm kick off at the insistence of the South Wales Police force.
Neil Kilkenny has finally left Elland Road and joined fellow championship side Bristol City in a three year deal.
The 25 year old has signed for the robins on a free transfer after his release from Leeds.
Leeds United have arranged two reserve team pre-season friendlies with non-league opposition.
Neil Redfearn will take a development squad to Blue Square Premier League side Alfreton Town on Saturday July 21st and Welsh Premier League side TNS on Saturday July 28th with both games kicking off at 3pm.
Alfreton finished last season in 15th place in the Blue Square Premier and play at the Impact Arena.
TNS won the double in the Welsh league last season and they have been champions six times in the last twelve years and have finished runners-up on five other occasions.
The Welsh champions will once again be involved in Champions League qualifiers with a second round tie against Swedish champions Helsingborgs IF.
One other development game at Bradford Park Avenue on August 8th has been cancelled.
